Summer’s ending...

Well, the summer in Copenhagen was apparently over before it even got started. Although I managed to host a Crash-party and a roof-party, in collaboration with some hard working people, during the short periods of dry weather. And big-ups to the GAM3-team who had me spinning hiphop at the Copenhagen Central Square, at this seasons last event; the GAM3 Finals.

I was also given the oppurtunity of performing alongside an incredible line-up at the Unfair
Fashion party, and close down the last regular wednesday-MWB at Vega this summer. I am still rolling with MidWeekBrakes, and I can inform you that there is a MWB Special coming up. So I would advise you to put a mark on 3rd of November, which among other things, will be the release party for my recently finished project, the "7 Sessions Mixtape". The cover is now ready, and the cd-copies will be distributed before you know it.

A call I received in the late summer days, offered me a job as a part-time teacher on the dj-course for the regional youth school, the project is called NuArt
. Building on my earlier experience as lecturer and instructor, I turned the challenge on. So from the next month on and half a year forward, I am going to educate teenagers on the basics of dj'ing and sounddesign. What a great oppurtunity to pass on my self-taught abilities to some inner city kids. :)

I expanded my balkan soundexperience further, by going record digging in Romania. This trip was great relaxation, but indeed also enlightning on the social and cultural situation in the balkans. Apart from the radio, I had a hard time finding fresh music and record stores. As a local dj put it for me: "There is no record shops here in Bucharest, down here we STEAL our music from the internet!". I proved him wrong, and brought home a bunch of old, but nearly mint vinyls, which are currently in my dj-bag.
So if you wanna shake your legs to some eastern influenced tunes, catch me at RUC Årsfest this friday, or the Egmont dorm this saturday.

B-ball, fire and other stuff

Damn. I just discovered that the mwb venue, Rust caught on fire last night. They are forced to close down Rust tonight, but I hope they manage to find another venue to hold this nights party... (update: they did, it's going down @ Culture Box tonight) It's unfortunate since almost every wednesday down there is a smash. Just last week I played a slamming set with my dj-partner in crime; Miksmads. We started out after Oxy Cottontails liveshow, and kept the club open for almost an hour later than the usual closing time, due to the still large crowd at 5 o'clock.

Last week I went on tour in Denmark with the GAM3 Crew, read the blog at streetgam3.dk. It was a week full of street related events; especially b-ball, b-boy'ing & dj'ing. GAM3 had gathered an incredible team for this task. In collaboration with the streetdancers from Flow Dance Academy & the b-boys from 2TheBeat, me and Agent Collect became a tag-team of great dimensions, just check here:

:-)

On the advertise tip; remember the Gongong movement and join the party, this friday the 22nd @ Zum Biergarten, just next to Palads cinema in Copenhagen.

Lookin' good

edit: Another 'Damn!': It is unfortunately confirmed, that danish female reggae-talent, Natasja, was involved in a tragic car accident, which took the life from her. She was a great inspiration for a lot of people. My condolences to her family and friends.

Things are rolling... Fast, I'm telling ya!

As I mentioned in a comment to my last blog, I am now also a resident dj at MidWeekBrakes @ Rust on a monthly basis. I played there yesterday, and people were really getting down to a lot of the scandinavian hiphop I'd brought.

Last weekend I went to Göteborg to play a couple of gigs and to buy
this mixer. I arrived friday by train and got picked up by my man Martin (Big ups for a lovely weekend!), who drove me to his place. We played the first set at the Club Lounge(s) that night, which really just was a system check and warm-up for the next :)
Because after a great saturday of sunshine, icecream & frisbee'ing, we went downtown to prepare our performance. Seldom seen; the club was already packed by 500+ people at midnight! Together we played a blockrocking blend of partyhiphop, reggae, mash-ups & balkan beat, and I must say everything worked out really well that night. Beautiful, friendly people in a classy club, who loves the music you spin for them. Does it get any better?

Well apparently it does, I just got a call this morning offering me a clothing deal, here in the immediate future. I've turned the deal on, and will make it official as soon as everything is sorted out.

Signed & secured

What I'm going for this spring

If you have been watching my bulletins, you might have noticed that I am spending even more time rocking dancefloors around Copenhagen. I'm currently holding residencies at Café Bopa and Bullit Club. Besides that I'm getting regular gigs at Rust and Saxons, as well as occasional jobs at various study- and dormparties. This weekend I had my wedding-dj debut, where I played a pile of jazzy tunes flavoured with a lot of classics, for a young and openminded crowd. It was actually quite fun, I hope to get an oppurtunity like that again... Next month I'm going out of town to Göteborg and Roskilde (check the calendar on my profile), for two exciting events, which themes will be revealed when time comes.

As far as keeping up the spirit for spinning records, one need to discover new (as in old) incredible music and unearth more fresh records, to spin for the crowd. The last couple of months I have been overwhealmed by genres as balkan beat & afro-funk, which of course have influenced my liveshows, and will continue to set its mark on my future projects. And I experience that my enthusiasm for this type of music, affects and inspire the people present when I perform live.

Since x-mas I have brought you a couple of mixtapes, you can find the last one here. I have assigned the next weeks to finish up my current project; the "7 Sessions Mixtape", which of course will follow up on the "6 Sessions Mixtape" that was released fall 2006. Hope to see your support when it drops :)

If you have been in Copenhagen, you might have realized that summer is about to come. Together with some interesting people, I am planning on throwing a couple of parties when the holiday kicks in. So if you're interested in getting me to play abroad, please approach well enough time before.

Best regards, enjoy life

So what happened in 2006?

For me, apart from discovering a lot of incredible music, I got to play around 60 liveshows in Copenhagen, did my first dj-gigs abroad and managed to release 5 mixtapes. I hope that you catched some of this througout the year, but if you didn't, you can still find the mixtapes through my profile.I have connected to some cool people in the past year, and I am planning some projects, both live- & recording sessions, with them in the immediate future. Also I opened up this myspace site, which have created acquintancies, and given me some opportunities I wouldn't have imagined.

I am not really into doing yearlists, but I will briefly sum up some of the events, that for me was outstanding and positive, during this year:

(-) As the world unfortuntely lost J Dilla in an early age, I am more than satisfied to see that his sound has becomed an established part of this decade, with more followers than ever. And as a large part of both the mainstream and underground hip-hop/rap scene has been going in circles, I'm happy to see that this oblique sound is evolving like never before, even after its primary innovator has passed away.

(-) When talking of oblique sounds, 2006 became another year where G.A.M.M.'s releases ruled the dancefloor. They released a whole lot of quality b-boy floorfillers and strictly mash-ups, so if it comes to innovative scandinavian labels, you can't put them out of the way. Also Freddie Cruger aka Red Astaire released a handful of highly anticipated vinyl-only releases, and his debut album.

(-) Some of the local guys I see turning up those same sounds, is of course Boom Clap Bachelors. They have been working all year purposive on finishing their album. I've heard it, and I must say this is one of the most promising danish albums I hope to see released in 2007. And as if this wasn't enough; one of the members, Robin Hannibal, did another project called 'Owusu & Hannibal', which for me was one of the best releases this year.

(-) We all saw and heard Gnarls Barkley & Timberlake/Timbaland's well produced pop songs hit the charts hard, which I see as a healthy sign in a saturated music industry. Because I characterize the music they released in 2006, as very playful and experimental. I remember the spring time, when the single "Crazy" only was available on promos, and whenever I played it, people will come asking what the name of that track was, and if I would please play it again :)

(-) In my hometown Copenhagen, Firehouse/Maffi Boys held the dancehall scene down strong. They sat their mark on Copenhagen, with a wide load of bomboclaat digital tracks from the 80'es. And apart from their mixtapes, they started to produce and release tracks with danish lyrics. I'm glad that someone keep up the legacy from Bikstok/59P. Big ups.

(-) Another local crew that opened my eyes to a new sound, was the boys from OHOI!. I am glad that I finally discovered the bassheavy dubstep scene, which I find to have some unique ideas on how to sound today. Both their musicproduction and eventmaking has been off the hook! I have heard that they have plenty more deep stuff to contribute with in the following year.

That was some of the events that cought my attention in 2006. I have created a tight strategy for releasing new mixtapes in 2007, and you can of course catch the info here on my page. I have also added a calendar so you now know where to find me behind the boards, spinning my records.

Welcome 2007, hope to see you there.
